Passionate About
Empowering youth and protecting Africa’s wild, sacred places

Originally from New Zealand and now rooted in the South African bush, Peter Eastwood followed a calling few dare to answer. After selling his international business, he chose to dedicate his life not to success as the world defines it, but to the protection of nature and the empowerment of the next generation.

His vision was bold in its simplicity: to create a place where young people from rural communities could reconnect with their natural heritage and be inspired to protect it. That vision became Koru Camp—a non-profit wilderness education initiative that has since welcomed over a thousand community members.

But Peter didn’t stop there. His aim is to establish at least twenty such camps across Southern Africa, creating a network of hope, healing, and hands-on conservation.

That same ethos is woven through every aspect of Sashwa River of Stars—the retreat Peter co-founded to reimagine the safari experience. From its entirely off-grid infrastructure to its plant-based kitchen, Sashwa exists not as an escape from the world, but as a place to reconnect with it more meaningfully.

Nestled within Mvuu Game Reserve—a once-hunted landscape Peter acquired in 2020 and transformed into a thriving sanctuary—Sashwa is a living example of what’s possible when care, courage, and community come together. Within a year of Peter’s stewardship, the land began to breathe again. Wildlife returned. Balance was restored.

Today, Mvuu forms part of the Greater Kruger biosphere. With open borders to Kruger National Park, wildlife moves freely across two million hectares of wild terrain—offering guests a raw, unfiltered encounter with the natural world.

But more than that, Sashwa is a story of shared purpose. A dream co-created by two people deeply in love with the African wilderness and committed to preserving its magic—not just for guests, but for generations to come.

“We wanted to build a place where the wilderness does the work,” Peter says. “Where people leave with a little more stillness, and a little more soul.”
