overview

The Gokyo Ri Trek is a life-changing journey that will take you to the Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Valley in Nepal’s Sagarmatha National Park. This isn’t just another trek; it’s an escape from the ordinary. As you embark on this adventure, you’ll discover the hidden gem of the Himalayas, a place where soaring views of the most renowned mountains like Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu will leave you breathless.

But here’s the secret – Gokyo Lakes Trek is the best-kept alternative to the crowded Everest Base Camp Trek. It leads you through a pristine valley to the charming village of Gokyo and the five sacred lakes nestled beside the Ngozumpa glacier. The trails are less crowded, allowing you to immerse yourself in the serenity of the Sherpa villages and savour local delicacies.

Standing at the edge of the world, gazing out at Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, and Makalu, their majestic peaks reaching toward the heavens. Feel the crisp mountain air invigorate your senses as you wander through the picturesque Gokyo Valley. These lakes, six crystalline bodies of water at 4,700-5,000m altitude, are not just ordinary; they are sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists. You’ll be part of a select few who get to witness this natural wonder up close.

The journey is challenging, but it’s a challenge that will transform you. You’ll follow the Dudhkoshi River to its source, where emerald-green lakes beckon. You’ll be a guest in Gokyo, a Sherpa village perched beside the largest of these lakes. The summit of Gokyo Ri (5360m) will be your private balcony to the grandeur of the Himalayas.

Everest Gokyo Ri Trek is a moderate hiking grade. Although the trek does not require any technical climbing, you will be hiking for long days. You will need to walk on a daily basis for at least five hours excluding the days of acclimatisation. So the trip is challenging for beginner hikers in particular.

This trip offers the flexibility to be booked as a private group excursion, ensuring an intimate experience. Plus, the itinerary and duration can be customised to perfectly suit your unique preferences.
